Frecklebelly Madtom

The Frecklebelly Madtom is considered a Louisiana Species of Greatest Conservation Need due its declining presence and abundance in Louisiana streams. In 2018 we began a 2-year project that sampled the Frecklebelly Madtom range in Louisiana in order to map the current population. We are also using two types of artificial cover units, which have shown to be effective in sampling other madtom species in comparable environments. The true conservation status and any managament needs for the species can only be known with accurate species distribution and abundance information.
